About the Founders
The Family
Otto B. Neely, born in 1900 in West Texas, came to Gilbert, Arizona as a youth with his family and began his lifetime vocation of farming. He married the love of his life Edna Trout, a teacher, in 1928. The couple had no children of their own but were known and loved by all and became "Aunt Edna" and "Uncle Otto" to generations of Arizonans. Throughout their lives they were commited to their beliefs of hard work, frugal living, Christian principles, and caring for those in need or the less fortunate. As they prospered, they shared their good fortune with others. Scholarships and grants helped young people obtain an education. Gifts provided homes for children. The ill, infirmed, or those who needed a helping hand ---- "Aunt Edna" and "Uncle Otto" reached out to give assistance in a myriad of ways.
The Foundation
Otto died in 1987 and Edna in 1993, but their care and commitment to others continues through the outreach of the Otto & Edna Neely Foundation. The Foundation is a non-profit corporation dedicated to those who need assistance. Scholarships have been established at Arizona's major universities, community colleges, and local high schools. Cultural and fine arts associations, social service agencies, and health and welfare organizations continue to receive gifts and grants. The Neelys were farmers and they prospered---their harvest continues as the Foundation improves and enriches the lives of Arizona's citizens.
